The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for an Electrical Supervisor.

 

Summary Description of Classification:

This position is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and repair of all electrical systems and equipment within a District facility. This role ensures that the electrical infrastructure operates efficiently, while supporting the learning environment, and complies with relevant safety and building codes. Work of the class involves responsibility of installation, service, and repairs of electrical and electronic equipment, fixtures and systems including life safety systems. The nature of work requires frequent visits to facilities to diagnose major electrical and electronic problems and/or to inspect projects at various stages of completion. Supervisors also develop budgets, obtain price quotes, and recommend projects.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and inspects the installation, maintenance, and repair of lighting, ventilating, and other electric type systems, equipment and fixtures and electronic equipment and systems; processes work orders and directs the repairs and adjustments to equipment and facilities; prepares estimates of materials, time, and labor necessary to complete jobs.
  • Develops and manages maintenance schedules to ensure minimal disruption to school activities.
  • Plans and coordinates projects related to electrical installations and improvements.
  • Responds promptly to electrical emergencies, such as power outages or faults. Coordinates with emergency services if necessary and manages incident resolution effectively.
  • Ensures all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety regulations. Stays updated on changes to regulations and implements necessary adjustments.
  • Performs regular inspections, diagnoses faults, and supervises the repair and upgrade of electrical systems.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of electrical maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment inventory.
  • Leads and coordinates the activities of electrical maintenance staff and external contractors.
  • Develops and implements budgets, identifies facilities and systems to be included in capital improvement programs.
  • Locates vendors, obtains price quotes, and requisitions materials.
  • Communicates with school administrators, facilities managers, and other staff to address electrical needs and concerns. Provide regular updates on the status of electrical systems and projects.
  • Coordinates the ordering of electrical and electronic supplies and equipment. Clarifies work order requests from facilities and ensures the proper and timely completion of data required on the work order request form. Maintains records as required.
  • Evaluates the need for new electrical systems or modifications to existing systems based on changes in school requirements or infrastructure.
  • Responds to emergency or critical incidents to resolve situations, prevent problems from occurring and solve any situation which could create hazardous conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency, Associate’s degree preferred. Considerable experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical fixtures, controls, and high amperage systems, including some experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, circuit breakers, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Knowledge of diverse types of electrical equipment and their maintenance requirements.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to school facilities and building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Understanding of emergency response protocols for electrical hazards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and best practices for prolonging the life of electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues effectively.
  • Competency in performing repairs and installations in accordance with safety standards and technical specifications.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate a team of electrical maintenance staff and contractors.
  • Competence in managing work schedules, delegating tasks, and evaluating performance.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify and resolve electrical issues and implement solutions effectively.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in electrical installations, repairs, and inspections.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with school staff, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining organized records and schedules.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license. Low voltage/electrical license required.

Ability to respond to emergency calls at any time and to work overtime as required.

Salary/Terms/Benefits:

  1. 239 day contract year; 8 hours per day
  2. Salary Range: G63 annually (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience).  Up to ten years allowed.  The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
