The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for a Special Education Zone Coordinator (PEC). 

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:

 

The Special Education Zone Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring effective instructional practices and special education services. This includes professional development, monitoring and evaluating staff performance in ensuring effective instruction and adherence to the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act.

  1. Knowledge of federal, state, and district rules, regulations and policies related to special education; research based best practices in the area of elementary and secondary special education.
  2. Knowledge of effective progress monitoring tools, strategies and record keeping.
  3. Experience as a highly effective IEP team member.
  4. Knowledge and experience of effective practices for conducting successful evaluation and IEP meetings.
  5. Knowledge in behavior management strategies and behavior intervention plans.
  6. Knowledge of educational leadership.
  7. Knowledge of management and supervision.
  8. Knowledge of instructional and educational principle and procedures including Georgia Early Learning Standards and Common Core Georgia Performance Standards.
  9. Strong organization skills and detail oriented.
  10. Skilled at positive and effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
  11. Skilled at working with a diverse student population of students with disabilities.
  12. Skilled at collaborative leadership focused on individual, staff and student growth.
  13. Ability to work independently while setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines.
  14. Ability to work with other members of a school or department to accomplish common goals.
  15. Ability to effectively process policies, procedures and practices related to progress monitoring, student evaluations, eligibility requirements, and special education placement.
  16. Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with employees, students, parents, community groups and others as required.
  17. Ability to motivate, train, direct and supervise staff.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Masters Degree in Special Education or related field
  2. Educational Leadership Endorsement, Educational Leadership, or Director of Special Education Endorsement certification is required.  (L-5 or above)
  3. Course work in curriculum, supervision, and administration

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains current understanding of federal, state and local rules, regulations and research based practices regarding leadership effective instructional practices and students with disabilities.
  2. Coordinates the provision of high quality special education services within the assigned zone.
  3. Systematically monitors the teaching and learning process in schools (progress monitoring, IEP implementation, BIP implementation, research based intervention implementation, etc.).
  4. Coordinates the planning and development of instructional programs and the effective delivery of services to students with disabilities.
  5. Ensures effective transition planning and documentation for students with disabilities.
  6. Provides continuous professional learning to improve staff performance in providing high quality instruction to students with disabilities.
  7. Participates in preparation of required district, state and federal documents and projects (such as FTE, CPI, etc.).
  8. Serves as a resource to principals, teachers, staff members, parents, students and stakeholders.
  9. Assists in the recruitment and evaluation of special education teachers, paraprofessionals and related service providers.
  10. Assists in the development and revision of policies and procedures regarding special education.
  11. Compiles budgetary requests from teachers and placement committees and assists in the allocation and expending of funds as directed by the PEC Director.
  12. Researches, plans, and coordinates professional learning programs for administrators, parents, teachers, and support staff in understanding special education and providing quality instruction to students with disabilities.
  13. Performs other assignments as designated by the Director of Special Education.

 

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1.  225 day work year

2.  Salary based on degree, certification, and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule
