SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
Monitors the hallways to provide supervision for students to help them report to assigned classrooms on time for scheduled classes; maintains order in hallways.  Hall monitors must interact in a positive and proactive manner with students of widely varying demographics and social backgrounds.  The position requires individuals who can perform their duties in a patient, understanding, caring, calm, tactful, respectful and professional manner while maintaining a sense of order and a reasonably safe environment.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.   Provides effective supervision of students in and around schools using specific techniques designed to prevent safety and security incidents.
2.   Provides effective direction for students to help them get to the correct classrooms.
3.   Escorts students as necessary to their classrooms or the administrative office when students arrive late or are found wandering in the halls.
4.   Assists teachers in removing students that are disrupting classroom activities and escort such students to the administrative office so corrective action can be taken by administrators.
5.   Maintains communication via portable radios with the administrative office, Campus Police, and other hall monitors.
6.   Monitors and inspects restrooms to prevent students from loitering or damaging facilities.
7.   Reports vandalism and any damage to building property to administrators.
8.   Monitors the arrival and departure of school buses to help students arrive and depart in the designated area safely.
9.   Monitors the cafeteria during meals.
10. Takes appropriate action to defuse actions taken by students in order to reduce conflict and/or help prevent confrontations.

 


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1.   High school diploma or GED.
2.   Some experience working with students is desired.
3.   Military experience is a plus.
 

 

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:

 

  1. 180 day contract year; 8 hours per day
  2. Salary Range: $15,667.20 - $17,668.80 annually (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience).  Up to ten years allowed.  The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
