The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for the position of Part Time Occupatioanl Therapist. 

 

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision administrative staff, evaluates the students' functional status and plans an appropriate treatment program to achieve short and long range goals that are measurable and realistic.  The therapist works with students with disabilities and many times requires the physical ability to assist the students with gross mother skill and fine motor skill activities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Successful completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy professional program.
  2. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.  Experience working in a school system or in a pediatric setting is preferred.

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Current Georgia license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
  2. Valid Georgia Driver's License required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Determines eligibility of service and recommend direct or consultative deliver if needed.
  2. Plans, organizes, and implements individual occupational therapy programs of service for students at the school level.
  3. Leads the students in individual, as well as groups, in such activity areas as daily living, fine motor, visual motor, visual perception and sensor integration to enhance performance in the classroom.  Recommends exercise program to enhance upper extremity function needed at the school level.
  4. Recommends modifications and assist with technology needs.
  5. Observes students reactions and progress and keep records to be included in case histories.
  6. Attends in-service training.
  7. Attends regular Occupational Therapy staff and team meetings to plan, evaluate and assess treatment programs.

  1. Working knowledge of the theories, practice methods, and techniques of occupational therapy for psychosocial and physical rehabilitation.
  2.  Knowledge and appreciation of the influence of disabilities, socio-cultural and socioeconomic factors on student's ability to participate in occupations.
  3.  Knowledge and use of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice to guide intervention decisions.
  4.  Knowledge of the federal, state, local legislation, regulations, policies and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy practice in schools.
  5. Ability to determine the need for an occupational therapy evaluation and to select and administer appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the student.
  6. Ability to interpret the evaluation data and write a comprehensive report that reflects strengths and barriers to student's participation and occupational performance.
  7. Ability to participate collaboratively with multi-disciplinary educational teams to develop Individualized Education Programs to meet student needs.
  8. Ability to develop occupationally based intervention plans based on evaluation information.
  9. Ability to provide evidence based occupational therapy intervention to improve student's performance skills and participation.
  10. Ability to adapt and modify environments, equipment, and materials including assistive technology.
  11. Ability to plan, coordinate, and conduct continuing education for educational personnel, parents, and students.
  12. Ability to use professional literature, evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
  13. Ability to interpret occupational therapy treatments to staff, relatives, patients and others.
  14. Ability to assess physical and psychosocial developmental levels and evaluate the students functional needs.
  15. Ability to plan, organize, lead, and instruct supportive staff in treatment sessions.
  16. Ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with students with disabilities.
  17. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
  18. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of therapeutic instruments and equipment related to occupational therapy.
  19. Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  20. Skill in effective oral and written communication

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by administration. 
 
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:

  1. 180 day work year; (8) hours per day.
  2. Salary Range: $58,564.80 - $65,980.80 (Grade 88) (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience).  Up to ten years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
