The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for ESOL Teacher.
Candidates must have an endorsement or certification in ESOL. In addition, certification in a content area (6-12) is a requirement for teaching ESOL at the middle or high school level. Candidates must have a strong interest in working with international students. Proficiency in Spanish or Gujarati is desired.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
Under direction of the ESOL Coordinator, the ESOL Teacher will plan instruction and provide appropriate learning experiences for EL students through state approved delivery models.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, and SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, the ESOL teacher will be required to perform duties and responsibilities satisfactorily, have knowledge of WIDA standards, Georgia Performance Standards, techniques for integrating curriculum, effective instructional practices, and Bibb County BOE policies. The ESOL Teacher must understand principles of language acquisition and be able to provide instruction and teaching suggestions for all language proficiency levels, to infuse technology into curriculum, and to work effectively with administrators, staff, students, parents and interpreters. The ESOL teacher must adhere to state and federal guidelines for maintaining and distributing documents and work under time constraints. The ESOL teacher must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication in English and possess strong human relations skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO COORDINATOR:
- Prepare class schedule for approval each grading period.
- Submit lesson plans for review.
- Maintain accurate student records concerning ESOL eligibility, parent notifications and testing accommodations.
- Certify to administer the WIDA Screeners and ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 each year.
- Attend department meetings and participate in ESOL professional learning.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by ESOL Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR AND CLASSROOM TEACHERS:
- Make the ESOL program a positive presence in each school.
- Offer teaching strategies and recommendations for accommodations in both instruction and assessment to differentiate for all levels of language proficiency.
- Offer professional development quarterly to staff on principles of language acquisition and most effective practices in teaching EL students.
- Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies when working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a Clear Renewable GA teaching certificate, along with ESOL certification or ESOL endorsement.
- Must hold certification in a content area at the secondary level. English (6-12) certification is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- For itinerant ESOL positions, it is required to have reliable transportation for travel between schools.
- It is required to maintain parent contact throughout the school year and accommodate both parent and interpreter schedules when planning parent-teacher meetings and school events.
- It is required to host ESOL/Title III meetings for parents.
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
- 190 day work year.
- Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
