JOB SUMMARY
Provides leadership, support, and coaching in the area Mathematics to ensure high levels of student success. Position collaborates with school-based Academic Coaches and other staff to build capacity at each middle and high school for the purpose of improving standards-based practices and instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Builds the capacity of the school-based coach or department chair to assist teachers with the implementation of Georgia’s Mathematics Standards.
2. Maintains knowledge of Georgia’s Mathematics Standards in grades 6-12 and assists school-based coaches and classroom teachers to develop and maintain short- and long-range plans for standards-based curriculum implementation.
3. Collaborates with the school-based coach and other staff to build capacity at each middle and high school for the purpose of improving standards-based practices. This will be accomplished through modeling of research-based instructional approaches and content expertise, observing in classrooms to assess the level of implementation of standards-based practices, and reviewing lesson plans to determine overall implementation of standards.
4. Participates in collaborative planning, professional learning, and inquiry groups to support continuous improvement in and assessment of the outcomes of initiatives as they relate to student achievement.
5. Collaborates with the school-based Academic Coach and other staff to review and interpret relevant data to determine areas that need improvement and/or support.
6. Stays abreast of current research in topics/issues and any relevant information related to improvement in core content areas.
7. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
2. Must possess (or meet qualifications for) valid GA educational certification in Mathematics (6-12).
3. Certification preferred (or meet qualifications for) GA certification in one or more of the following fields: Teacher Leadership, Coaching Endorsement, Teacher Leadership Endorsement, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Support and Coaching Endorsement, or Educational Leadership.
4. A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience and at least (3) years coaching/leadership experience with successful performance evaluations. Must have experience in working with diverse student populations and programs including RTI and accommodations for varying learning.
5. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
KNOWLDEGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of state standards and current research in Mathematics.
2. Knowledge of current local, state, and national curriculum standards in Mathematics.
3. Knowledge of standards-based classroom instruction, effective teaching strategies, learning theories, measurement and statistics, and adult training strategies.
4. Knowledge of the structure and content of the Georgia’s Mathematics Standards frameworks and the ability to lead and support administrators and staff in pedagogical and curricular change.
5. Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
6. Ability to organize and conduct staff training programs.
7. Ability to develop multiple forms of assessments (formative and summative).
8. Knowledge and understanding in the use of current technology, including disaggregation of data.
9. Skills in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
10. Strong human relations, public speaking and communication skills.
11. Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
12. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.
13. Must demonstrate success in training other professionals.
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1. 205 day work year.
2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and be able to communicate to exchange information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a standard school, office, or classroom environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions. Requires some travel and extended work hours.
